I'm really interested in John Baldessari's work besides of the variety and originality of his work. You really never see any other work that looks like his. He makes art in many different forms and doesn't limit himself to only a canvas or a camera. He's 80 years old and yet still putting out new series every year.

I did an emulation of the photograph on top. I did a mix of his directional pieces and how he blocks the faces or eyes of his subjects with color spots.

Carly Wonder Emulation of David Hilliard

I chose to try to make this piece my own because this picture to me in very beautiful. I love how in a room of such clutter there is a relaxing mood. It becomes very calming as you look in depth with all of David Hilliards work. I love the way we makes multipule pictures into one whole picture. His work has really helped me open my mind to things I would like to expierment with.

Above is a photo taken by Nicholas Nixon. Well known for his large format portraits, Nixon has photographed subjects such as aids victims, senior citizens, the homeless, as well as people who just enjoy sitting on their front porch. Due to the outrageous fees charged by homeless people just to take their photo, the difficulty of senior citizens who think you're planning some conspiracy or have hearing that's so bad they don't understand a word you've said, and the fact that I'm not acquainted with any aids victims, I decided I'd check out the cats who hang out on their porches. Nixon has a way with people and the way he could show such deep human values in such a simple photo amazes me.

EMULATION

Paul Graham: I chose to emulate Paul Graham because of the way he can freeze time and catch things that are usually unnoticed.  His photo on the top really catches my eye because I am drawn to the woman's gesture and her emotion.  I wanted to recreate a sense of fatigue that is clearly shown in Paul Graham's photo.  Graham inspires me technically: lighting, high saturated images, and pushes me to notice the little things that people do with their body.

Emulation - Sonya Kozlova

Above is an image of and produced by Duane Michals. He is an American photographer known throughout the 60's to 80's for his unique photographs unlike any others at his time. What drew my attention in all of Michals' photography were his imaginative, self-reflecting, and layered images. He used his photography to evaluate himself, his dreams, and his desires. In my photo, I emulated Michals' style by layering composites of myself as he did in his own picture, and using self-exploration by layering my two images that compare and contrast myself as a photographer and myself as a subject of my photography. I chose to emulate and research Tracey Baran because I was immediately drawn to her use of color and the emotional connection I had to her work.  Her work was all about her home in New York and her friends, family and herself.  Alot of her work has an unsettling feel to it, but tells a story.   Her work resembles a diary of her life even though it unfortunately came to and end at a young age.  I chose to take a picture of my sisters hands with blueberries in them, but instead of being perfect round blueberries I had her mush them in her hands to give off an unsettling feel.

Emulation: Erin Pfaff

I chose to emulate Aziz & Cucher, because of the main intent of their project from 1992-2002 based on human interaction and technology. Their use covering the eyes, mouth, and nostrils to show that humans use more technology to communicate rather than interacting face to face. I feel that this project reflects a feeling of uneasiness. I attempted to emulate the two artists by covering up the mouth, ears, and eyes.

I chose to emulate Julie Blackmon. I chose her because her photos really stood out to me.  I like them visually because of the colors and how her photos almost look like paintings or like a collage.  But I also like whats in the photos. She shows family life in an exciting way by with whats in the room or what the people are doing. So here is my emulation!

             This is my photo interpretation of thier sert"Architech's Brother" in general, it's not of a specific photo!


So, for my artist/artists I chose Robert and Shana Parkeharrison because visiually they really drew me in. However, after I looked closer at their photos, I realized that there was much more to them, especially the set Architech's Brother, which is the set I focused on for this project. To start with Robert is the model in every photo, and in every photo in that set he wears a shabby old suit. I later found out that he wore that suit  to represent the average man, and to kind of represent his failure so that it's even more relatable. Thats why it wsasn't the nicest suit ever, to represent that failure. So with what I wore I tried to represent the average american woman. Also, all of their photos in that set are really closely related to man's relationship with the enviroment, and how we abuse it. I think the photo of theirs I posted of was a strong example of that in how the man is using his man made lightening machine to create destructive lightning! In my interpretation I'm walking off into the forest with a wire cutter, ready to cut down little tree's and plants! I actually have a little pile I did cut down by my feet, but I know it's kind of difficult to see! I felt bad destroying plants, even if it was in the name of photography! Also, some of the Parkeharrison's photos cue in more on how it's not just us destroying the enviroment but us and our technology, which is why picked a wire cutter instead of some tree cutter thing!

I Choose Paul D'Amato because I liked his street life pictures and because I liked the lighting and the emotion he brought into his pictures.  He made his lighting in his pictures very dramatic.  Some emotion he brought to his pictures were scared, happy, and sad.  I tried to emulate him using emotion. Debra Bloomfield's career in photography spans three decades.  She recieved her MA and her BA at San Francisco State University.  Since then she has shown her work many places like: San Francisco Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Contemporary Museum of Art in Honolulu, The Fine Arts Museum in Santa Fe, and The Victoria and Albert Museum in London.  Debra is represented by the Robert Koch Gallery.  I picked to Emulate her work because I like the colors in her photographs and I like what she photographs.

I chose to Emulate JoAnn Verburg because I really like the soft lighting technique she uses. I feel that her images have a romantic quality. I decided to emulate her photo "Underground" because I like the coloring as well as the composition. I decided to do this because I really like how the trail continues through all the images.

Emulation: Linda Connor

I chose Linda Connor for the emulation project because I loved the lighting she used. I also loved the idea of her work. She wanted the viewer to see the meaning of the landscape and people she photographed. Everything had to do with spiritual, sacred places. The way she played with the lighting gives us that feel. I tired to get a close up on the hands as she did and I made my color black and white to go with the simpleness that she uses.
